What is TEDx?
TEDx is an independently hosted event under TED. Columbia College Chicago has their own certification to hold these events.
Every year a different theme is chosen and focused on.
What is this years theme? What does it mean?
This years theme is Impulse and Impact! It revolves around what impulses drive us as creatives and how that has affected our own lives and others.
Here is our official event statement:
Every creative impulse we pursue has the power to ignite change on both an individual and collective level. This drive sparks a dialogue around our wants and needs as creatives. The theme this year encourages you to explore the depths of your inclinations and it's affects. What is this impulse to chase our desires? Where does it come from? How do we execute this impulse in a way that is fulfilling, fruitful, and impactful?
How do I apply and what are the qualifications?
You can apply to be a speaker, host, or volunteer here. You can also apply on the page labeled 'Apply'.
The only qualifications are that you have to be a student, alumni, or staff of Columbia College Chicago!
What does a speaker, host, and volunteer do?
A speaker has their own 'talk' or verbal presentation in front of a crowd. This presentation has to relate to our theme in a way but don't worry you have a lot of flexibility. Speakers will work closely with a team specifically chosen to support them through this experience!
The host keeps the crowd entertained when the speakers are changing or there are intermissions. This could be through a variety of ways whether it is musically, comedic, etc. For both the speaker and host position you should be somewhat comfortable speaking in front of other people.
Volunteers help the rest of the TEDx team ensure that the event goes smoothly. This could be handing out refreshments, tidying up, or guiding speakers and guests amongst other things. Volunteers will be fed and appreciated!
