Your Healing Space: Suicide Prevention Week & New Care Team Members

Richard Chin - Monday, September 11, 2023
 Events

Wellness @ Columbia

Your Healing Space is our weekly newsletter that focuses on YOUR health and wellness.  We hope you'll be able to put these ideas and practices into good use in support of your education and life goals. Your physical and mental health MATTERS.

It's National Suicide Prevention Week

This year, the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention is highlighting its Talk Away the Dark campaign. They are sharing stories, facts and resources to help spread the word about suicide prevention and save lives.

If you or a friend need support for suicidal thoughts, there are resources available to you here at Columbia and in the community. You can learn more about those resources on the Counseling Services website and on the Counseling Services Linktr.ee.

New Care Team Members @ Columbia

Wellness @ Columbia is also excited to announce our newest additions to our mental health care team @ Columbia. Below are the new additions at Student Relations and Counseling Services.
If you are interested in setting up an appointment with any of the new staff, you can call their office or visit their office website:
Student Relations - 312.369.8595
Counseling Services - 312.369.8700

Tiana D Hill, LCSW
Director of Student Relations
Tiana Hill is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker passionate about mental wellness and creative arts. She is passionate about social justice, building community, and ending the cycle of violence and intergenerational trauma. She is dedicated to helping students work towards their highest selves and thrive. Her approach is holistic and student-centered. She believes that you are the driver of your life journey, and she is a resource when the road gets a little bumpy or challenging to navigate.

Sarah Wurster, LCPC
Assistant Director of Student Relations
Sarah’s approach to working with students is to meet you where you are in that exact life moment. Her willingness to be creative and her eclectic, yet solutions-focused, approach is based on your needs and goals. She makes no assumptions about situations; past, current, or future. Even if you cannot figure out what’s “wrong”, Sarah is available to support, listen and help you determine the best path to a solution, regardless of the source. She encourages you to stop by before your struggles go from minor to major (or major to enormous!).

Britt Hodgdon, LCSW
Director of Counseling Services
Britt loves working with people who aren’t sure about therapy and can’t see how it might benefit them but feel hungry for change. She works from a radical relational approach that knows each of us is the expert in our own lives. Britt enjoys helping people get to know themselves better, work on breaking family cycles and learn to see themselves as “born enough, just as I am.” She loves to do creative interventions and bring music, mindfulness and art into session to explore self in the context of life. Britt values the “person beyond the student” and hopes that all students graduate from Columbia with a stronger sense of who they are not just as professionals but interpersonally, as well.
