Spring 2024: New Year, Fresh Start.
Hey there!
Welcome back to Columbia! The new year is upon us, bringing a fresh start and exciting opportunities. I get it, thinking about school right now might not be on the top of your list (last semester was a challenge, no doubt), but here are a few things you can do to make your return to Columbia College Chicago for the spring semester much smoother.
Get Yourself an Agenda or Planner: Trust me, this one's a game-changer. Having a visual aid to remind you of upcoming tasks and classes not only keeps you on top of your work but also gives you peace of mind when you're hanging out with friends. Grab an agenda that you like – you're more likely to use it. The Student Center might have some handy student handbooks with planners, so keep an eye out for those.
Review Your Schedule: Jot down your class schedule in that shiny new planner. Once that's done, schedule in your study time, extracurriculars, and work shifts. Having a well-thought-out schedule can really help you manage your time effectively. Sure, plans might change, but having intentions set for the semester is a great way to stay organized.
Order Your Books: Take a peek at your syllabus and start thinking about the materials you'll need. Books are usually on the list. While you might not find all of them at the bookstore or library, keep an eye out for sales or consider ordering them online. Being prepared for class from day one is a good feeling.
Reach Out to Your Advisor and Faculty: Got something important on the horizon early in the semester? Don't wait – shoot them an email now. Many staff and faculty can be reached before the official start of the semester. Check the Advising Center website for your advisor's drop-in hours during the first week.
Make Time for Friends: After all the planning and preparation, don't forget to connect with your friends. Plan a movie night, grab coffee, or just hang out. And hey, study sessions can be fun too!
Welcome back, we're so glad you are here!
