Black History Month

Wellness @ Columbia encourages you to celebrate Black History Month. This year's theme is African Americans and Labor, which seeks to highlight the important role Black people's work (free and unfree) has had in shaping the country. We encourage you to learn more on the ASALH website here.

Wellness Resources

Wellness @ Columbia recognizes the difficulties black people can face in navigating health and wellness in what has historically been a white-dominated field. We want to highlite some organizations that are here to help address this:

Melanin & Mental Health was born out of a desire to connect individuals with culturally competent clinicians committed to serving the mental health needs of Black & Latinx/Hispanic communities. We are committed to promoting the growth and healing of our communities through our website, online directory, and monthly events.

Black Men Heal is a nonprofit that provides FREE mental health treatment-both individual and group therapy to Men of Color. "Our offering to the community is a safe space that provides the opportunity to heal from Intergenerational trauma and systemic racism. We pair the men with therapists of color who can attend to their unique cultural experinces."

The Steve Fund is dedicated to supporting the mental health and emotional well-being of young people of color. My Digital Sanctuary is an online library of wellness resources for young people.

Sista Afya Community Care is a social enterprise that provides community mental wellness care that centers the experiences of Black women.

Therapy for Black Girls is an online space dedicated to encouraging the mental wellness of Black women and girls.

Brave Space Alliance "is a Black trans-led LBGBTQ+ Center on the South Side of Chicago that creates and provides affirming and culturally competent services for the entire LGBTQ+ community of Chicago."
