REGGAETON KARAOKE - OFF CAMPUS FIELD TRIP TO THE MCA CHICAGO

Do you like Karaoke? Latine Music? Want to celebrate Caribbean Culture? Meet in the Lobby of the Dwight residence Hall at 4:30pm (642 S. Clark) and come with School of Visual Arts faculty on a field trip to the MCA Chicago to see Dancing the Revolution, an exhibition of visual and audio art about Caribbean Culture, especially Dancehall and Reggaeton. In addition to seeing the exhibition of installations, photos, paintings, and sculptures, you can do karaoke as part of FREE Tuesdays!

Bring your ID and your U-Pass asa we will be taking the red line or buses to the MCA (about 25 minutes away) then returning to campus by 8pm.

Radámes “Juni” Figueroa’s Karaoke El Nuevo Horizonte (pictured) is a participatory installation that transforms the gallery into a space of karaoke, gathering, and rest. Inspired by Caribbean vernacular architecture, Figueora’s structure features seating, window shades that playfully display T-shirts customized by the artist, and a karaoke station, which visitors are invited to use every Tuesday from 5 to 9 pm (when the museum is free for Illinois residents). During this time, you can pick tracks from a playlist created by Figueroa, featuring some of his favorite songs from reggaetón, reggae, dancehall, salsa, and other Caribbean music genres.
