Director of Hollywood Shuffle, The Five Heartbeats, The Meteor Man, and the actor of Emmy Award–winning series The Bear, Townsend’s career has spanned decades of pioneering work in film and television, opening doors for Black actors and independent filmmakers and collaborating with some of Hollywood’s biggest names such as Denzel Washington, Halle Berry, Morgan Freeman, Alfre Woodard, Louis Gossett Jr., Keenen Ivory Wayans and Chris Tucker.
