Artists and Museums: Interventions and Collaborations
On April 21, 2023, Debra Yepa-Pappan (Chicago-based Jemez Pueblo/Korean artist) will visit the Columbia College Chicago campus to give a public talk (12:30 pm) and lead a special session for Rethinking Museums students.
Debra Yepa-Pappan is a visual artist with international acclaim. Her multimedia practice, which combines digital collage and photography, centers on themes about her mixed-race identity that incorporate symbolic imagery influenced by her cultures and urban environment. Currently, she serves as the Community Engagement Coordinator for the Native American Exhibition renovation at The Field Museum. In her talk, Yepa-Pappan will present her recent creative work and discuss her collaborative curatorial practice with a commitment to including Native-first voices and perspectives. She will then have a conversation with participants about different approaches to interventions and collaborations in a museum context by creative artists.
In the second portion of her visit, Debra Yepa-Pappan will meet Dr. Onur ├ûztürk's (Assistant Professor of Art History) Creative Communities: Rethinking Museums students for further discussion. She will provide feedback for students who would like to share their progress with the Reimagining Museums project.
