In A World Of Becoming

"In a World of Becoming” is an original collaborative choreographed Independent Project created by two graduating seniors, Grace Butt and Erica Jone,s for Columbia College Chicago’s Admitted Students Day, serving as a welcoming gesture to incoming students. The performance weaves together two distinct yet complementary works: one tracing the emotional arc of beginning college—from the anxiety and exhilaration of acceptance, to forming meaningful relationships, stepping into leadership roles, and ultimately confronting the bittersweet transition of graduation—and the other delving into personal reflections on recurring life patterns, particularly the nuanced tension between love and lust.

Through expressive movement and shared storytelling, the choreographers explore vulnerability, growth, and self-discovery, highlighting how young adults navigate identity, connection, and desire during transformative periods of change. Together, the pieces create a layered narrative that mirrors the evolving journey of becoming—both artists and individuals stepping into new chapters of life.
