Nomadic Mythologies: Mapping > Translation < Perception

A conceptual cartographic journey of spatial poetics, this talk encapsulates Laura Perdrizet’s current body of work, Nomadic Mythologies. Reimagining the gesture of mapping through invented visual languages, interdisciplinary aesthetics, and embodied translations of sensory experience in relationship with place, Perdrizet utilizes a wide range of media, technologies, and texts. The artist intentionally blurs the boundary between the perpetual and the evanescent, where the concept of a map becomes a dimensional frontier decoding the nature of place and our place in nature. This performative lecture invites the audience to participate in creating a tyrolean traverse between critical imaginaries, engendering collective contemplation of our own conceptions, memories, and dreams of space & place.

Inspired by wanderlust, language, and the seduction of movement in any medium, Transdisciplinary Artist Laura Perdrizet creates visceral, conceptually grounded experimental narratives, most often in the form of installation, video, performance, sculpture, photography, and writing. Her research-based work has been shared internationally, including exhibitions, screenings, performances, lectures and publications that incite dialogs about space & place, memory, translation, as well as interdisciplinarity in pedagogy & praxis. Most recent: Nomadic Mythologies screening (International Art Film Festival in London), The Work of Art in the Age of AI research presentation (CAA 2024), and the inaugural Artist in Residence, Presidential Visiting Scholar award (Lane College, Oregon). Laura is an Assistant Professor of Studio Art & Experimental Media at University of Mount Saint Vincent in NYC.
