Roots & Reverence: Celebrating Native American Heritage Month

Join Student Diversity & Inclusion in honoring Native American Heritage Month through Roots & Reverence, a two-part event celebrating connection, culture, and care for the land.
We’ll begin with a screening of Gather, an intimate documentary that follows the growing movement among Native Americans to reclaim their spiritual, political, and cultural identities through food sovereignty while confronting the trauma of centuries of genocide.
Following the film, participants are invited to create their own wreaths using native Illinois grasses and materials. This hands-on experience offers space to reflect, create, and root ourselves in gratitude and reverence for the land and its enduring histories.
