This is your chance to hone your retail business and visual merchandising skills, while meeting new School of Fashion friends and making a difference on campus before the school year even starts!

The Rack is a new storefront space at Columbia College Chicago that offers an ever-changing inventory of secondhand clothing and accessories that is free for students. The Rack aims to provide a variety of options for self-expression in an inclusive and affirming environment. Students are encouraged to drop in, donate and dress up!

During this 4-hour workshop, we will:

-Tour the space and understand the floor layout, while making suggestions for the most efficient and student-friendly experience
-Sort and inspect new donations and current inventory. We will find the gaps in each category and strategize how to create a more inclusive store for all Columbia students.
-Prep inventory to be displayed for the Rack floor. This includes steaming, hanging, and organizing.
-Merchandise the inventory on mannequins, racks and in display cases
-Group break out and brainstorming sessions

This workshop is led by Professor Rachel Jimenez Penca. During the Fall semester, she will be teaching: Retail in the Field, FASH-284D-01 and Styling in the Field, FASH-284F-01
