First winter in Chicago? We’ve got you covered! You made it through December and now you have about 2 more months of considerably chilly weather. As seasoned winter survivors, we’re here to provide you with some (hopefully) warmly welcomed advice on what to wear during Chicago’s coldest months.
1. Invest in warm socks We’re walking all the time! The worst thing is when you still have 4 blocks to walk and your feet are already frozen in your shoes. Especially if you don’t have boots to wear, thick socks make a huge difference in keeping the heat INSIDE your body.
2. Layers layers layers Especially helpful on days when the heat in the classroom is blasting, layering long sleeves or t shirts under sweaters can help you stay insulated outside, but gives you the option to shed when you get to class. Feel free to layer jackets too!
3. Tights or leggings under jeans Layering your pants can also keep you warm and toasty, especially if you don’t have a long jacket to protect you against the wind. Putting on a pair of knit tights or leggings under baggy jeans gives you a little extra warmth on cold or windy days.
4. HATS! The easiest way to keep heat inside your body is by keeping your head covered. Knit hats or beanies are always cozy, and keep your ears and head away from the elements (rain, wind, and snow).
5. A warm drink Not something you wear, but definitely something you’ll be glad to have if it's chilly. Keeps you warm on the inside AND you can use it as a hand warmer, hooray for multifunctionality!
