The end of the semester is just around the corner and with it comes Finals Week. Yes, the end of the semester can be a scary time, but if you implement some of these tips and tricks, you’ll come out of Finals Week feeling accomplished!
1. Study with a buddy (or buddies): If you’re studying for a final exam, it might help to have a buddy or a group. That way you can bounce your collected knowledge off of each other; talking about a subject with others will help you remember more about it!
2. Eat snacks while you work: This should be a given, you deserve a little treat while you work, and the repeated motion of chewing can actually help you stay focused. If you’re studying, chewing gum has been shown to improve audio and visual recollection and memory.
3. Take breaks, form patterns: Taking planned breaks can help you stay focused for longer periods of time. Taking a break by stretching, chatting with a friend or a roommate, or cleaning something, are all great ways to take a short break while keeping either your body or brain active, so it’s easier to get back to work when the time comes.
4. Maintain your good habits: It’s hard to keep up with eating and sleeping habits when you’re worrying about a test or a final project, but doing those things will keep you at your best so you can finish strong! Take time to eat meals, and don’t pull too many all-nighters!
5. Reward yourself: Every step you take is important, don’t forget that! Which means you are allowed to reward yourself for hard work, EVEN if the hard work isn’t done yet. Get yourself a coffee, watch an episode of your favorite show, take a long shower, whatever it is you think you need to bring yourself back into your work, do it!
Remember, not everyone’s brain works the same way, and not everyone gets things done in the same way. Tune in to your mind and body while you work, and recognize what it needs throughout the next couple of weeks. You can do this!
