It almost shouldn't be a shock that Beyonce is constantly keeping her fans, and the rest of the world, on their toes. But once again, she consistenetly baffles us all with her creative innovation. During this year's Superbowl, Verizon teamed up with Beyonce (and Tony Hale) for a commercial that's supposed to "break the internet." Well, it worked after Beyonce released two new singles for her highly anticipated album, Renassaince: Act II. Not only did fans get a release date for the new album, but they also got a taste of what's to come. Apparently, Beyonce's glammed out fans are expected to swap out disco cowboy hats for real cowboy hats. That's right. Beyonce is going country!
Seasoned fans know that Beyonce is never shy about her Texan roots and loves to flaunt her country flare. On her album, Lemonade (2016), she already has a fully fled country song entitled "Daddy's Lessons" that's fit with some proper country "yee-yees" in the background. So, its not all that surprising she's decided to commit to her hometown themes.
As for the two singles released, they're incredible and incredibly diverse. "Texas Hold 'Em" is already making its way up the top 100 list, nearly making Beyonce the first black woman to ever top the country charts. In my opinion, this song is a great way to correct history's wrongs and start including black voices where they belong. "16 Carriages" is recieving less attention, but it's still an undeniably amazing track. This one takes a slower approach to the country genre, but still builds well. Another great addition to Beyonce's catalog.
All in all, we thank Beyonce for consistently pushing the boundaries and challenging our expectations. Whether its pop, RnB, house, or country: one thing remains consistent. Beyonce cannot release a bad song.
