Taureaux Tavern is a French-inspired restaurant located at 155 West Van Buren St. Immediately upon walking in, I feel like I’ve stepped into F. Scott Fitzgerald’s The Great Gatsby. It’s 1920s-esque with lots of greens and golds. The restaurant is more upscale, yet the environment is still relaxing. There is also a lovely outdoor area to sit in.
My roommate and I ordered the baked goat cheese as an appetizer. It had a tomato piquillo pepper sauce and was served with garlic baguette. We both really enjoyed this appetizer, and it came out to the table quickly. I ordered the rigatoni ala vodka for my dinner. It wasn’t the best rigatoni ala vodka I’ve ever had, but this also isn’t an Italian restaurant. I probably wouldn’t order it again, but I was in the mood for rigatoni ala vodka, so it did its job. My roommate ordered the mixed greens salad which had market lettuces, watermelon, pickled fennel, mint, dried cranberry, and port wine vinaigrette, then added salmon. My roommate really enjoyed this salad, she said it was a perfect balance of flavors.
Overall, I would recommend Taureaux Tavern if you’re in the mood for something a little bit nicer! I’ll be coming back and trying their grilled steak sandwich. Check out their website here!
