Living in the city full-time can be tough when the weather starts to get cooler and the grey skies blend with the grey skyscrapers on the streets. It can be nice to take a day trip during the weekend that helps you reconnect with the world around you, and reminds you to slow down during a busy time (ahem, this part of the semester). With that in mind, here are a few places you and a group or you and your partner can go and have a festive fall day!
1. Didier Farms: Didier Farms is a pumpkin patch located in Lincolnshire IL, about an hour and a half using public transportation. The farm not only has pumpkins but also has a corn maze, horse rides, wagon rides, and animals. Didier Farms operates until October 29th!
2. Jack’s Pumpkin Pop-Up: Jack’s Pumpkin Pop-Up is perfect if you’re looking for something still within city limits. It’s easy to get to, about a 30 minute commute on the Red Line, and offers thousands of pumpkins and photo ops for groups. There’s also a corn maze, and cocktails available for anyone 21 and older (or hot cider for anyone 21 and younger).
3. 13th Floor Haunted House: The renowned haunted house is located about an hour from campus, and offers 2 themed haunted houses with live actors, as well as mini escape games. Your tickets guarantee your admission to all haunted houses, go with a small group and get spooked!
These are just a couple of the places you can visit, as more are available farther outside the city! Happy Halloween Columbia! Have fun, and stay safe
