November is the National Native American Heritage Month! It originally evolved from an initial American Indian Day in 1916 to a full month in 1990, and since 1994, every U.S. President has proclaimed to officially observe November as Native American Heritage Month. The month serves as an opportunity to celebrate the rich histories and achievements of indigenous people, and to educate the public about their heritage. This month is a time to celebrate Native American cultures, languages, and traditions, and to recognize the significant contributions indigenous people have made to the United States. It is important to acknowledge the sacrifices and difficulties faced by these communities, both historically and currently. Events such as festivals, concerts, exhibits, and educational programs are held across the country to celebrate and educate the public about Native American history and contemporary life. There are many different ways you can appreciate or celebrate Native American Heritage. You can seek out art and media created by Native Americans, or take time to learn more about their culture and history. So let’s use this month as an opportunity to show our appreciation!
