You may have noticed our emails or posters in the elevators over the past couple of years, so we decided to rewind and introduce ourselves!
Here's our writing team in order of seniority:
Elena Drouin:
Hi! My name is Elena Drouin and I'm a senior at Columbia College Chicago for a BFA in Screenwriting for Film and Television. Originally from the Detroit area, I found passion in storytelling while training as a competitive dancer. However once I watched Clueless (1999) for the first time, I realized that film writing is all I want to do. Now, I love to write campy but twisty stories that breathe new life into female and queer characters. Recently, I co-directed and co-wrote the short film Bitchin’, as well as writing the absurd comedy Is She a Slut? for BFA Thesis.
I loves to conceptualize the craziest ideas I can think of and write them down. I especially love to collaborate with like-minded women who understand the certain type of crazy I aspire to.
Olivia Haas:
Olivia Haas is a senior film and television major at Columbia College Chicago, with a focus in screenwriting, where her favorite things to write are female focused comedy and coming of age. She also has a minor in creative writing, where she focuses on her poetry (but also loves a good creative nonfiction piece). Originally from St. Paul, Minnesota, Olivia came to Chicago because she loves a big city; being “in the thick of it” is the environment she prefers to be in. Olivia loves going to concerts, coffee spots in Chicago, and seeing movies with friends. On campus you’ll most likely see her rushing to class, sitting in Grant reading a book, or talking to friends she runs into on the sidewalk. She loves her job at Columbia because it allows her to connect with her peers and community, and of course it lets her practice her professional writing skills.
And our newest member, Grace Hopp:
Hi! My name is Grace and I’m studying film with a concentration of cinematography at Columbia. I grew up in Michigan and took a video production class in high school that really encouraged my interest in filmmaking and decision to come to Columbia. My favorite thing about being in the city is being able to walk everywhere and having so many things to do here. In my free time I like to hang out with my friends, watch movies, or do some crafting. I like being creative and keeping myself busy with projects or other hobbies. I love nature and love to be outside. That can be slightly more difficult in the city so I like to explore different parks in the area. I really enjoy traveling and have been to a few different countries and hope to continue seeing different parts of the world.
We're looking forward to another great semester of keeping you guys in the loop about news and events around campus! Make sure to reach out on our Instagram to send us any events or stories you want to see posted!
