As a senior I have been through three fall seasons, and I’m currently working on my fourth. There are a few tips that I have to maximize the fall experience.
Tip #1: The cold is coming- Whether you are a fan of the cold or are dreading the chill, the fact is that Chicago will soon begin to feel the crisp air come in. Make sure you are prepared for the cold with the proper attire, jackets, hats, gloves, etc.
Tip #2: Enjoy Chicago in the fall- The farmers markets will soon disappear but pumpkins and hay will take its place. Chicago offers many events and outings around the city. For example, Navy Pier puts up a wonderful Pumpkin Lights event throughout the month of October.
Tip #3: Build traditions- It may be a solo journey or with friends, but find ways to build traditions. For the past three years leading up to halloween I have taken the time to make homemade apple and pumpkin pies. This is a tradition I look forward to every fall.
Tip #4: Take care of yourself- Self care is very important and to take time to treat yourself is a gift. For me I give myself the gift of taking in the fall air. I love the changing leaves and what the parks have to offer here in Chicago. Find things that make your fall experience pleasurable.
Tip #5: Get involved at Columbia- Clubs and organizations are wanting you to join. Find groups that fit your needs and don't be afraid to jump right in. Please make the most of your experience. I promise you won’t regret it.
