It may seem endless right now but, believe it or not, we only have two weeks left to this semester! While this may be comforting for some, it also may feel like a huge deadline you have to meet for finals, projects, films, tests and so much more. Don’t worry any longer! Let’s take a breath together and follow these easy steps to ending your semester with success.
-
Stop what you’re doing and make a list! Are you paralyzed by stress? Does the thought of how much work you have to do make you not want to do anything at all? Let me introduce you to the oldest trick in the world: lists! Start off by writing down all of your assignments and their due dates. Next, estimate how long each assignment will take you. Finally, reach for your agenda or phone calendar and insert which assignments need to be done and when.
-
Schedule time to procrastinate! It may sound silly but if you’re a procrastinator, it’s a necessity. Let’s say you have an assignment due on Wednesday. Schedule it so that you start the assignment on Sunday, that way you have Monday and Tuesday to chip away at it.
-
Work with food! Grab your favorite snack from the vending machine and give yourself tiny breaks to eat. You’ve probably been staring at your screen for hours typing one sentence and remembering you have your favorite chips next to you can genuinely be a lifesaver. Snacks allow for a little mental break, but they won’t de-rail your groove.
-
Use the Student Center! I know it’s cold and we all want to lay in bed all morning, but the student center can be the best place to change your scenery for work. Not only will you be motivated by other worker bees, you can also take a brain break whenever you want. Too stressed out to think? Hit the gym for 45 minutes and come back to it. Or play a game or ping pong. Or our meditation room could be the perfect place for you!

Utilize your teachers! This is my best piece of advice: use the people who are there to help you. Teachers appreciate honesty and they love it when a student takes initiative. Send out an email saying where you are confused or how you can even start an assignment and let them help you. It can seem scary but, trust me, it’ll be better than a failing grade.
Keep your head on straight, Columbia! You guys got this!
