Saint Patrick’s Day is almost here! This holiday originated in Ireland, marking the death of St. Patrick on March 17th. This holiday is known for being a “lucky day”, because of the association with 4 leaf clovers. Saint Patrick used shamrocks (3 leaf clovers) to teach people about religion. The leaves represent faith, hope, and love, while the stem represents the unity of the 3. If you were to find a 4 leaf clover instead of 3 leaves, it was a sign that luck is coming your way. There are many ways to celebrate this holiday, especially in Chicago. Every year the Saturday before Saint Patrick’s day, at around 10 AM, the Chicago River will be dyed green! This is a super fun tradition you do not want to miss! There is typically many people there to celebrate, and sometimes you will even see people playing music on a Bagpipe, an Irish instrument. This tradition started when plumbers used to use dye to detect leaks in the river, and someone got the idea to dye the entire thing. You can watch the river turn green at any point in the Chicago river, but for the best view, try to get on Upper Wacker Drive. So don’t forget, the Chicago river will be dyed green on March 15th at 10 am!
