And the winner for the best time of the year is ... AWARD SEASON!
While awards like Golden Globes, Oscars, Emmys and more are purely objective; it's still fun to track your favorite artists and movies at the academies! Here is a recap of all the big winners so far and what's to come for this year:
We started the year off with a bang at the Golden Globe ceremony on January 10th, 2024 where Oppenheimer (2023) had a sweep in the film category. Overall Oppenheimer won: Best Motion Picture- Drama, Best Director- Christopher Nolan, Best Original Score- Ludwig Goransson, Best Dramatic Male Perfomance- Cillian Murphy, Best Supporting Dramatic Male Performance- Robert Downey Jr. However, Oppenheimer lost out to Barbie (2023) for Cinematic and Box Office Achievement! Poor Things (2023) also had a nice win for Emma Stone in Best Comedic Female Performance and Best Motion Picture- Comedy! However, Killers of the Flower Moon (2023) had a historic win for Lily Gladstone in the Best Supporting Female Performance! As for the television category, The Bear and Succession duked it out for the big titles. Succession landed Best Supporting Dramatic Male Performance- Matthew Macfayden, Best Dramatic Male Performance- Kiernan Culkin, and overall winning Best Dramatic Series. The Bear took home Best Comedic Male Performance- Jermey Allen White and Best Supporting Comedic Female Perfomance- Ayo Eidebri, all while taking home Best Comedic Series.
Next at the Emmys, there was a tight race between The Bear and Succession again. The Bear secured wins for Ebon Moss-Bachrach, Ayo Eidebri, Jeremy Allen White, and the overall Best Comedy Series. As for Succession: Kiernan Culkin, Sarah Snook, Matthew Macfayden, Jesse Armstrong (writing), Mark Mylod (directing) and the big win of Best Dramatic Series. However you can't forget about Abbott Elementary! Quinta Brunson earned her well-deserved win for Best Lead Comedic Female Performance.
And that brings us to the Critic's Choice Awards! These awards are lesser known but detrimental to award season. Most winners of Critics Choice Awards are usually set to win the Oscars as well! Succession and The Bear were unshockingly neck and neck again. The Bear secured wins for Jeremy Allen White, Ayo Eidebri, Ebon Moss-Bachrach, and Best Comedy Series. Succession won new awards for Sarah Snook and Kiernan Culkin ,but lost out in the supporting categories this time. All in all, Succession still took home Best Drama Series. In the film category, Oppenheimer took home Best Picture, Best Directo, Best Cinematography, Best Editing and Best Ensemble. At least Barbie secured Best Original Script and Best Comedy! As for the performances, The Holdovers upset by taking awards for Paul Giamatti. Da'Vine Joy Randolph and Dominc Sessa. Plus another delightful win for Emma Stone in Poor Things!
