As an artist, I really find beauty and inspiration in so many things around me. This ranges from simply the way sunlight shines through the trees on a sunny day (I love the cucoloris effect that it tosses across the grass or a sidewalk) or how the rain creates a giant mirror on the blacktop (I love how the lights in the city look more grandiose, it makes the world feel so much bigger). Art is all around us. To find inspiration, I go out into the world when I feel stuck, whether this be in nature or just walking around the city. Nature helps you to become quiet with yourself and allows you to truly listen to what’s really been going on with you. Walking around the city gives you access to so many different people on all walks of life. You can observe their behaviors, how they dress, how they act, you never know what it can spark in you.
One of the many things that inspires me are holidays. They arise a comfort and pleasant nostalgia for me and make me feel at home to create something new. Each one brings out a part of me I feel is only awaken during these days of the year. Halloween just happened this past weekend and I’m reminded to honor the more secretive and dark aspects of myself. When we honor all the parts of ourselves, not just the ones we see all the time, it opens a new creative door. We can get inspired because there’s this deeper connection to self. I’ve mentioned in past notes here how important connection to self is and I will continue to do so because it lays the foundation for everything, especially artistic inspiration.
Yours Truly,
