This year marks the 60th anniversary of the Chicago International Film Festival, the longest-running film festival in North America! The festival is running this year from Wednesday, October 16th, to Sunday, October 27th. With over 120 feature films and 70 shorts to present this year, you’re bound to see something great.
As always, Chicago International Film Fest will have its opening night, centerpiece, and closing night screenings, featuring some of the season’s most anticipated films. Wednesday, October 16th Music Box Theatre will host the opening night of the festival and screen The Piano Lesson, the film based on August Wilson’s acclaimed play of the same name. Following the screening is a planned discussion with the director & co-writer Malcolm Washington, screenwriter Virgil Williams, and actor John David Washington. The festival centerpiece, also to be held at Music Box on Monday, October 21st, is Nightbitch starring Amy Adams and directed by Marielle Heller (Can You Ever Forgive Me?). Finally, the festival is closing out with Robert Zemeckis’s Here starring Tom Hanks and Robin Wright. Zemeckis is set to receive the Founder’s Legacy Award after closing the festival for the 3rd time in its history.
In honor of its 60th anniversary, the Chicago International Film Festival will be holding newly restored retrospective screenings from previous years. This is in addition to its regularly programmed collections like After Dark (Horror films), Black Perspectives, and Outlook (LGBTQ+-centered films). A few titles featured in the Retrospective are Shoplifters (2018) and The Package (1989).
Tickets are now available for all screenings and showtimes! To learn more about the festival, see the lineup, and purchase tickets, please visit https://www.chicagofilmfestival.com/
