in good academic standing are eligible to apply for the position of Editorial Assistant on the
department’s literary journal, Allium, A Journal of Poetry & Prose, for a stipend of $5000, paid
over academic year 2023-2024 ($2500 per semester).
What are the responsibilities of the Efroymson Editorial Assistant? The Editorial Assistant will
work up to ten hours per week during fall and spring semesters assisting the Editor-in-Chief and
Managing Editor on tasks such as:
- Processing submissions for the editing classes
- Corresponding with authors
- Soliciting one writer from each genre to interview for Allium’s website
- Assisting in the distribution of the journal
- Maintaining and updating selected pages of Allium’s website when necessary
- Marketing the journal via social media and traditional outlets
- Supervising assistant editors (one from each genre) working on Allium’s Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram accounts
- Developing copy and image posts for social media outlets
- Producing promotional materials for release event
- Proofreading and copyediting
- Attending editorial meetings, when necessary, with editor-in-chief and managing editor
with contributing writers. In addition, their name will appear on the masthead.
