Please join MacArthur Fellows Wendy Ewald & Susan Meiselas as they discuss concepts behind the new publication Collaboration: A Potential History of Photography.
This free public talk starting at 6 PM in the Ferguson Hall will be followed by a book signing and exhibition reception from 7:30 PM – 8:30 PM in the Community Engagement Hub at Columbia College Chicago 600 S Michigan Ave, first floor, Chicago IL.
Collaboration: A Potential History of Photography is a groundbreaking publication, by Ariella Aïsha Azoulay, Wendy Ewald, Susan Meiselas, Leigh Raiford, and Laura Wexler, that uses the lens of collaboration to challenge dominant narratives around photographic history and authorship. Working with an accumulation of more than 600 photographs, each entry breaks apart photography’s “single creator” tradition by bringing to light tangible traces of collaboration: the various relationships, exchanges, and interactions that occur between all participants in the making of any photograph and in the shaping, undoing, and transforming of archives. Books will be on sale at this event.
The exhibition Collaboration is curated by Columbia College Chicago Photo Social Practice students under the mentorship of Ewald and Meiselas in response to the new publication. Pizza will be served at the reception after the talk and books will be on sale at a special event discount.
This event is supported by the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation, committed to building a more just, verdant, and peaceful world. More information at macfound.org.
